In our society and our lives we have been inflicted with calamities and disasters.
Have we ever looked at our lives and examined our actions whether they follow the true teachings of Islam.
Many a thing we do goes directly against the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. And Back biting and Slandering are couple of things which we do in our lives which is a cause of calamities and disasters in our lives.
The hadith of Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) defines what is Backbiting and Slandering:
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (R.A) that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: "Do you know what gheebah (backbiting) is?" They said, "Allaah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Saying something about your brother that he dislikes." It was said, "What if what I say about my brother is true?" He said, "If what you say is true then you have backbitten about him, and if it is not true, then you have slandered him."
( Muslim;2589 )
The Quran clearly forbids us not to Backbite and Slander people.
"neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful"
(Surah Al-Hujuraat, 49:12)
Allah curses the person who Backbiter and Slanders:
" Woe to every slanderer and Backbiter."
(Surah Al-Humazah, 104: 1)
Backbiting and Slandering not only gains curse of Allah but also the torment in graves..
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (S.A.W) passed by two graves and said, "They are being punished, but they are not being punished for anything that was difficult to avoid. One of them used to walk about spreading malicious gossip (nameemah), and the other used not to take precautions to avoid getting urine on himself when he urinated". Then he called for a green branch, which he split in two and planted a piece on each grave, and said, "May their torment be reduced so long as these do not dry out."
(Narrated by Bukhaari, 213; Muslim, 292 )
..but also flogging in the Day of Judgement.
It was narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Abu-l-Qasim (the Prophet) saying, "If somebody slanders his slave and the slave is free from what he says, he will be flogged on the Day of Resurrection unless the slave is really as he has described him."
(Bukhari; No. 6426)
So my brothers and sister please think carefully before you speak, hold your tongue before you speak ill of people.
May Allah forgive our sins. May Allah Help us to increase our Iman. May Allah bring Blessings, Prosperity, Tranquility and "Glad Tidings" in our lives.
May Allah help us to come to the path of Quran, Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H), the Guidance of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and the Teachings of the Four great Imams of Islam.
Amin.
